Financial Management Course

All individual debtors in a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 case must file a statement attesting to completion of a course in personal financial management (Official Form B423) Debtor's Certification of Completion of Instructional Course Concerning Personal Financial Management).

• In a Chapter 7 case, Official Form B423 Certification About a Financial Management Course is due within 60 days after the first date set for the meeting of creditors.

• In a Chapter 13 case, Official Form B423 Certification About a Financial Management Course is due no later than the last payment made by the debtor as required by the plan or the filing of a motion for hardship discharge. Also required in a Chapter 13 case is B2830 Chapter 13 Debtor's Certification Regarding Domestic Support Obligations and Section 522(q).

Note:  The certificate filed by the financial management course provider may be filed with Form B423, although this not required.

Step-by-Step Procedures:

1. Log into CM/ECF.

2. Select [Bankruptcy >  Misc/Other].

3. Enter the case number (e.g., xx-xxxxx).

4. Select [Financial Management Course] from the event list.

5. Select the party filer.

6. Browse to select the Certificate (PDF file).

7. Verify the final docket text; if correct, click [Next] to submit your document(s).
   
   Note: The Notice of Electronic Filing displays, giving you the document number. Copies of this notice are immediately emailed to all participants who receive electronic notification in the case.
