Multi-Factor Authentication Coming to PACER and CM/ECF
Beginning Monday, May 12, 2025, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be available for all Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) and PACER users. MFA provides added security to accounts by protecting against cyberattacks that steal passwords, significantly reducing the risk of unauthorized access. Users with filing and all other types of CM/ECF-level access will be required to enroll in MFA, while users with PACER-only access will have the option to enroll.
CM/ECF and PACER user enrollment in MFA will open on Sunday, May 11, 2025. Users with filing and all other types of CM/ECF-level access will be required to enroll in MFA and are encouraged to do so at their earliest convenience. MFA enrollment will be optional for users with PACER-only access, but they are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this new security feature.
IMPORTANT: This enrollment may affect public users’ ability to file using third-party software that does not support MFA.
Beginning in August, users with any type of CM/ECF-level access who do not voluntarily enroll will be randomly selected to do so. These randomly selected CM/ECF users will be notified of the MFA requirement during login. By the end of 2025, everyone with CM/ECF-level access will be required to use MFA when logging in.
